My Story

Kia Ora, I am Monique Jackett of Monique J Art.

I am an a Mixed Media artist based in the sunny Central Hawkes Bay, NZ.
I live with my husband,  and two children ( 4 & 7) on a  lifestyle block with over 20 farm animal rescues. This  keeps me very busy when I'm not painting, teaching or doing mum-life! I am a part-time primary school teacher, musician and have a deep love for the outdoors.
Art to me, is an absolute expression of ones-self. It is a release, a journey through imagination,  and a way to get feelings out in a tangible way. Art is a part of who I am, and a way of sharing part of myself with the world.
The play of light in dawn or dusk skies, windswept coastlines and vast landscapes around Aotearoa provide a channel and inspiration for my paintings.  I aim to create pieces that cross the boundaries between the familiar and the mysterious.  My land, sky and waterscapes are created primarily with acrylic and oil techniques in a semi-abstract style.

As an artist I find my voice and vision continously evolving,  inspired by the ever changing landscapes around me and within me. My paintings delve into the beauty and complexity of the natural world, offering more than just a representation of scenery. - they are reflections of emotion, perspective and possibility. Through vibrant layers and textured strokes,  I strive to create paintings that inspire viewers to pause, reflect,  and see the world anew. Each piece is an exploration,  a way of asking "What lies beyond what we see?"
By choosing dramatic and bold colour choices,  combined with soft details, I aim to create alluring and enchanting artworks that take you to a place of inner reflection and appreciation of the beauty of Aotearoa.
